New to FHR?

Show up, say hi, and run what feels right for you.

You don't need to register, pay dues, know anyone, or have a perfect pace picked out. Come a few minutes early, introduce yourself when we do names, and people will help you find the right group or workout for the day.

What you need to know

  • Saturdays usually have the widest range of pace groups.
  • Monday usually runs around 10:00 min/mi.
  • Tuesday usually runs around 9:00-10:00 min/mi.
  • Thursday track is self-paced and first-timer friendly.
  • Saturday almost always ends with coffee at J.P. Licks.

Which Run Should I Try First?

For the most social experience...

The Saturday Run

We start with names, then people share roughly how far and fast they want to run before splitting into groups. Afterwards, we meet up at J.P. Licks for coffee and post-run conversation!

Groups often shake out around 11:00+ min/mi, 9:30-10:00, 8:30-9:00, and 8:00-8:30, but it depends on who shows up. Distances vary but are typically 4+ miles.

For maximum pace flexibility...

Thursday Track Night

Track night is great for first-timers because everyone is in the same place, whether you are walking, jogging, or running fast intervals.

We usually do a group warmup, often with a coach, then say names and share workouts. Join one or bring your own!

For a relaxed evening run...

Monday Social / Recovery Run

Monday is usually one relaxed group around 10:00 min/mi. We do names, run the ~3.4mi route together, and keep it conversational.

Bring lights and/or reflective gear in the darker months as we'll cross streets and bike paths.

For the early birds...

Tuesday Morning

Tuesday is usually one group around 9:00-10:00 min/mi for about 4 to 5 miles, depending on how far people want to run.

People often head straight to work afterward, so it's a friendly and efficient start to the day!

What to Expect at Your First Run

  1. Arrive a few minutes early. Our runs typically start about 5 minutes later than the posted time.
  2. Say you are new. We usually ask if anyone is new to FHR during names. Jump in, share your name, and people will fill you in!
  3. Pick a group or workout. On Saturdays, we split up by pace and distance. Monday and Tuesday usually stay as one group. Thursday track is flexible.
  4. If you're late... If you are more than ~10 minutes late, you may miss us on Monday, Tuesday, or Saturday. On Thursday, we are at the track, so you'll be able to find the group.

Worried About Pace?

Thursday is the safest bet.

Walk, jog, do drills, run intervals, or bring your own plan. Since everyone is on the track together, you won't have to keep up with one moving group.

Saturday is a great option too.

We typically have a wide range of paces on Saturdays. Tell people what distance or pace feels comfortable, and the group will help you land with the right people.

Monday and Tuesday are usually one group.

Monday tends to be around 10:00 min/mi, and Tuesday tends to be around 9:00-10:00 min/mi.

What to Bring and Know

Bags

For Thursday track, people can leave bags by the picnic tables. For Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday, there is no designated bag storage.

Bathrooms and Water

Use the restroom before you arrive, and bring any water / nutrition that you'll need for the run. Monday, Tuesday, and outdoor Thursday track do not have reliable bathrooms. Saturday sometimes passes water fountains or bathrooms, and the run ends at J.P. Licks with water and a bathroom.

Lights and Reflective Gear

Lights and reflective gear are smart for Monday and Thursday evening runs in darker months (and generally smart since we'll cross streets and bike paths!).

Kids, Strollers, and Dogs

Strollers and on-leash dogs are welcome on Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday runs. For Thursdays, kids are welcome to join, but please do not bring strollers onto the track, and leave dogs at home.

Because routes cross streets and use shared paths, please keep dogs close, use your judgment with stroller-friendly routes, and let the group know what you need before the run starts.

First-run checklist

  • Arrive a few minutes early.
  • Bring water or nutrition if you need it.
  • Use the restroom before you show up.
  • Bring lights or reflective gear for evening runs.
  • Tell people you are new when we do names.
  • For Saturday, say your preferred pace and distance.

Post-Run: The Best Part!

After Saturday runs, the group stops at J.P. Licks for coffee, food, and conversation almost every week. People often stay for an hour or more (it's secretly one of the best parts of the whole run!).

Tuesday runners usually split off for work. Monday and Thursday sometimes turn into ice cream, smoothies, drinks, or other post-run activities, but check the Facebook group to see what plans we have in mind.
